The Leopoldine Walls, or Lorena Walls, were a nineteenth-century wall that surrounded the free port area of Livorno.

Interesting fact: It was from here that both Giovanni da Verrazzano and Amerigo Vespucci set sail in the 16th century, crossing the Atlantic to reach the new continent. This was also the port where the fleet of the Knights of Santo Stefano, the religious order of chivalry founded by Cosimo de' Medici to counter the raids of the Barbary pirates who plagued the Mediterranean, was moored. Here, in a lavish ceremony, Maria de' Medici embarked to marry Henry IV, King of France. Galileo also came here to test how the telescope he had perfected could be used aboard a ship in rough seas, but an exceptional calm thwarted his attempt.

The Trammino Cycle Path is a scenic cycle/pedestrian path connecting the center of Pisa to the Marina di Pisa coastline. A cycle path of approximately 12 km connecting the center of Pisa to Marina di Pisa, following the route of the ancient tramway, now a largely paved path protected from traffic. It begins in the Porta a Mare neighborhood and winds through urban areas, open countryside, wetlands, and pine forests, offering a blend of natural landscapes and historic views. Along the way, it passes through areas such as La Vettola, San Piero a Grado, and the mouth of the Arno, home to the fishing scales typical of the Pisan coast.
