Embark on the Tour of Lake Annecy, a moderate touring bicycle route that circles the pristine turquoise waters of Lake Annecy, nestled among the French Alps. This journey covers 23.5 miles (37.9 km) with a gentle elevation gain of 790 feet (241 metres), typically taking about 2 hours and 14 minutes to complete. You will cycle past charming villages and historic castles, like Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard, enjoying continuous views of the lake and surrounding peaks.
Much of the route follows a dedicated car-free "voie verte" greenway, offering a smooth and safe ride. However, be aware that some sections, particularly between Bout-du-Lac and Menthon-Saint-Bernard, require sharing the road with cars. The eastern side of the lake presents the most notable incline, a short climb with a single hairpin bend near Talloires. Along the way, you will find convenient amenities such as water stations, bike repair points, and numerous cafes to refuel.
The Tour of Lake Annecy is celebrated as one of France's most beautiful cycling routes, known for its exceptional natural beauty and accessibility. Its mostly flat terrain makes it suitable for a wide range of cyclists, from casual riders to enthusiasts. The route gained international recognition when it was featured as an Individual Time Trial stage in the 2009 Tour de France, cementing its status as a premier cycling destination.

Cycle the Val Passiria path from Merano to San Leonardo, a picturesque route perfect for touring cyclists. You will pedal along the refreshing Passirio river, enjoying fantastic views over unspoilt nature, green areas, and charming villages. The trail is largely natural with fine-grained gravel and compacted sections, making it unsuitable for racing bikes. This moderate ride covers 25.9 miles (41.7 km) with a gentle 1350 feet (412 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 2 hours and 49 minutes.
This accessible route is suitable for all skill levels, including families, thanks to its modest and consistent incline. You can begin your journey near the Sissi statue in Elisabeth Park in Merano. Along the way, you will find ample opportunities for refreshment stops in villages like Kuens, Riffian, Saltaus, and St. Martin, making it easy to break up your ride.
The Passirio river, fed by glacier water from the Ötztal Alps, is your constant companion, with the path crossing it several times via charming covered wooden bridges. The endpoint, San Leonardo in Passiria, holds historical significance as the birthplace of Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer, where you can visit a museum dedicated to him.

Sigmundskron Castle is located south of Bolzano, above the Adige River. The castle has changed hands and names several times over the centuries. Before Sigmundskron, the castle was called Firmian. The current owner, Reinhold Messner, also calls the castle ruins that, more precisely MMM Firmian (Messner Mountain Museum). The MMM is a project with six locations in Tyrol.
