Chinchón is located in the southeast of the Community of Madrid, nestled between the Tajuña and Tajo rivers. It is one of the most visited towns in Madrid; in fact, it appears on the list of the most beautiful towns in Spain. It was also one of the candidate towns to be the Capital of Rural Tourism in 2022. The most visited area is its Plaza Mayor, a porticoed square from the 15th and 16th centuries. Other highlights include the Castle of the Counts of Chinchón, the Lope de Vega Theater, the Clock Tower, the Convent of the Poor Clares, the five hermitages of San Antón, San Roque, Santa Ana, and those of Nuestra Señora del Rosario and Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia.

The Peirones de Santa María mark a change of atmosphere, the path descends from the olive groves and runs along some slopes populated by large esparto vines until it connects with the ancient Vía del Esparto, a primitive Roman road that ran through the centre of the peninsula and was used to transport esparto products and other products from the Las Vegas region to the markets of the city of Madrid.

This is the name given to the remains of a medieval sanctuary from the High Middle Ages built opposite the Santa María site, isolated on a hill with a magnificent view of the San Pedro valley. The old church had two naves and due to the size of the complex and its location it could have served as a fortress and a surveillance post.

The ruins of the ancient settlement of Santa María are on a barren hill among the olive groves of Villarejo de Salvanés. It was a Carpetanian fort and was inhabited for four thousand years, in the Bronze Age, until the 13th century, when the inhabitants moved towards the agricultural wasteland where the town is currently located.

A small town near Madrid that is worth visiting to stroll through its streets and enjoy its typical cuisine. Its main attraction is its Plaza Mayor, an example of the architecture of Castilian porticoed squares - with 234 balconies - and where most of the restaurants are concentrated. But it is worth strolling through its streets, going up to see the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, where we can see Goya's painting "The Assumption of the Virgin". In addition, in front of the church there is a viewing point from which there are excellent views of the Plaza Mayor and the entire town. There is also the Clock Tower and the Lope de Vega Theatre, all just a few metres away. Other places of interest are the Parador de Chinchón, a former Augustinian convent; the Castle of the Counts of Chinchón, the Casa de la Cadena, the hermitages of San Antón and San Roque.

One of the best restaurants with traditional cuisine where you can eat in the Plaza Mayor of Chinchón. Good quality cuisine, with large dishes and prices, more or less affordable for the kitchen and dishes that we can taste. We ate some starters and some main courses, and we left delighted. In addition, the restaurant is very cozy.

The Fuente del Arce is another of the historic springs in Tielmes. It is halfway up the hill and has good views of the Tajuña valley. The fountain has a stone wall and a spout with a small basin that does not usually have water all year round. Nearby is the Fuente del Sacristán, somewhat hidden, and then the descent towards Tielmes along the steep slope of the famous “Tielmes es corazón” bank.

The plain of the Valdecañas stream is a plain of crops and fruit trees that take advantage of the water resources of the Horcajo and Valdecañas springs. The path runs along the south side of the valley, opposite the road, and does not pass through the trees of the Valdecañas spring, although at the end you have to follow a new section of the ditch to the entrance of the Horcajo ravine because the parallel livestock track is uncomfortable to walk on.
