Easy and comfortable route along this old railway line

Railway tunnels and trenches are impressive constructions due to their design and effectiveness in facilitating the passage of trains on steep terrain, maintaining a gentle and accessible slope in complicated areas with elevated terrain or to reduce the acoustic and visual impact in places of high environmental value.

The Pinar del Parque Forestal de Carabaña is a large forest of Aleppo pine on the slopes of the Huevo Rodado ravine, an essential forest lung in the Tajuña river basin and a pleasant space for walking and recreation for the inhabitants of Carabaña.

The section of the Tajuña Green Route in La Marañana de Carabaña runs along the old Vereda de Tielmes, now known as Camino de Vaciabotas. The Arganda railway ran along the opposite bank, where the Chávarri Central station is located. In the current section of the Green Route you can visit the historic Puente del Palo, of Roman origin, old mills and several dams and waterholes, one of them known as the Tajuña waterfall.

Vaciabotas Dam This is the dam or weir where the Caz del Molino takes its water from the Tajuña River. It is also known as the Azud del Molino and is one of the irrigation channels of the Madrid plain. The dam's waterfall is next to the old Molino Nuevo or Molino de la Isla, which is privately owned and documented in the Topographic Relations of Felipe II. The riverbank is a cool environment of giant trees and riverside vegetation. The irrigation channel and the course of the Tajuña are separated by the dam and until they meet again at the Puente del Palo they form the island that gives the place its name. In the area of Tielmes there are the Presón weirs, the Presa del Marqués and the Cantarranas Molino waterfall, all of Islamic origin.

In the 16th century it was an important flour mill and fulling mill in the municipality of Orusco. A century later it was transformed into a paper factory to meet the needs of modern society at the time. Now it is a carpet factory but the original weir, the waterfall, the grove and the traditional irrigation channels used in the Tajuña plain for centuries have been preserved.
