Definitely a highlight, but unfortunately, the castle was covered in scaffolding when I visited. The castle dates back to the Middle Ages but was later almost completely rebuilt.

Saint Lawrence, to whom this church in Maruri-Jatabe is dedicated, is one of the early Christian martyrs from a time when Christianity was still forbidden. He was archdeacon of the Pope and was asked by the pagan emperor to hand over the treasure to the church. Lawrence asked for three days, during which time he distributed the church assets among the poor inhabitants of Rome and, after the agreed time, came to the emperor with the poor to present them to him as the treasure of the church. He was then martyred to death, the legend says that his body was roasted alive on a grate - this attribute can be seen in many depictions of Saint Lawrence - over coals. He is said to have been in good spirits and told his executioner on the one hand whether he wanted to turn him around. Saint Lawrence's memorial day in the calendar of saints is August 10th.

Cool castle, graceful as it stands there. By the way, a really beautiful hiking area.

From this 216 meter hilly peak we can have a good view of the Bay of Plentzia in the distance. At the top there is a nice mailbox, along with the summit plate and a picnic area.

If you are seeing the original rocket-shaped mailbox, you have already arrived. The views offered by this summit are very good.

The Arbina dam backs up the river bed of the Butrón River. Here the environment is full of oak groves, lime trees and, in some areas, alder, ash and acacia trees.

This medieval castle is one of the most beautiful in Biscay. It is located in a beautiful setting, on a hill and on top of some rocks, and is surrounded by a century-old forest.
