Wenningstedt's Village Pond In the heart of upscale Wenningstedt, where luxury bungalows and expensive beach chairs usually reign supreme, lies a small, sleepy pond – the village's unsung hero. Not much happens here... and that's exactly what makes it so special! What makes the pond so special? Sylt's only "lake" – and therefore a sensation (on an island that otherwise consists only of sand and salt water). Stage for duck dramas: The "Wenningstedt Pond Elite" (a handful of mallards) perform daily plays – who gets the last piece of bread? Who swims the most elegantly? Tourist tip: Anyone who stands by the pond for more than five minutes is automatically named a duck feeder. Oasis of reflection: On stormy days, the sky is reflected so beautifully in the water that even Sylt celebrities pause here for a moment (before rushing to the "Red Cliff" selfie spot). The pond's true significance For locals: A silent nod – "This is real Sylt!" (beyond champagne and designer outfits). For children: The "Sylt Whitewater Park" – if you ignore the ducks and throw stones in instead. For ornithologists: A "natural wonder" because, in addition to ducks, a tired oystercatcher sometimes stops by. Fun fact The pond has no official name – locals simply call it "De Teich."
