The Schlüttsiel ferry port was built in 1959 as part of the embankment of the Hauke-Haien-Koog. Before that, the old port, from which the ship connections to the Halligen existed, was in Bongsiel, about 3.5 km east of the current location. This facility was built in 1752. However, the port soon lost its importance because the access roads were very poorly developed. Schlüttsiel today consists primarily of the multi-storey ferry house directly on the outer embankment in the Koog, the handling facilities for the ferry on the harbor pier, the harbor basin, the sluice structure of the Bongsieler Canal that drains here and the Jordsand information center inside the Koog.
