The Vía Verde de la Cantera in Alicante is a 1.2-kilometer-long cycle and pedestrian path along the former route of the "Trenet de la Marina" (Marina Railway). The car-free path connects the city with Albufereta beach and runs close to the sea, accompanied by expansive views and marked lookout points. Particularly impressive are the restored tunnel sections, which are now safe for walking and cycling and have been enhanced by natural light and ventilation. Historical elements such as the converted overhead line pylons and the original track bed recall the town's illustrious railway history. Despite some criticism regarding its lack of connection to the rest of the cycle path network, the Vía Verde offers an attractive, nature-oriented alternative to the busy coastal road – ideal for a short break with a view of the Mediterranean.

The beach of Sant Joan is very long and has white sand. Towards the north you can see the impressive mountains that rise above the coast.

What has been talked about for years has now been implemented. The old TRAM railway line has been adapted and opened for pedestrians and cyclists. Well done. especially the long tunnel, where window openings have been specially created for good light. An asset to Alicante!

Playa de San Juan is a vast, golden sandy beach stretching for several kilometers along the Mediterranean coast north of Alicante. The soft, light sand and the clear, turquoise water create an open, almost endless panorama where sea and sky merge seamlessly. The beach is particularly beautiful in the early morning or at sunset – the light bathes the waves in warm hues, and the expanse conveys a sense of peace and freedom. Playa de San Juan is not just a place to swim, but one of those spots where you simply stop, take a deep breath, and let your gaze wander across the sea.

Very nice section right on the beach, on the promenade, near the end. Well done, there are several sculptures there. You just have to be careful not to hit them with your bike. But cycling isn't actually allowed there. 😉 Great photos in the evening sun! 👌
