그 크기와 외관 모두 장엄한 루벤스 방앗간은 Entre-deux-Mers에서 가장 주목할 만한 곳 중 하나입니다. 설치는 11세기로 거슬러 올라가는 것 같습니다. 섬 위에 지어진 중세의 사각형 탑은 2km 하류에 있는 바가스 방앗간과 유사점을 가지고 있습니다. 그곳에는 아직 3쌍의 맷돌이 그대로 있습니다. 그러나 이것은 요새화된 건물이 아니라 둑 위의 다리 방앗간입니다. 북쪽 건물에는 18세기에 두 쌍의 맷돌과 풀롱(곡물을 빻는 것이 아니라 직물을 두드리는 기계. 이러한 방앗간은 종종 "두드리는 방앗간"이라고 불렸습니다)을 갖춘 이중 아치 다리가 추가되었습니다. 방앗간의 이 남쪽 부분은 "작은 셰농소"라는 이름을 얻게 될 것입니다. 이 방앗간은 2000년부터 역사 기념물로 분류되었습니다.

Using the power of moving water to drive a mill wheel is an ancient invention that dates back to pre-Christian times. Thanks to such a construction, human or animal muscle power could be easily replaced by a watercourse - natural or artificially created - in order to grind grain into corn, for example. There are essentially two different ways of driving watermills: Either the water simply hits the blades of the water wheel from below to set it in motion; or the water is guided above the wheel and falls onto the blades; this type of construction is more efficient due to natural gravity.

I hope a bit of advertising is allowed. There is a marvellous B&B / gîte - Haras de la Tour - just 2.5 km off all of these routes at Lamothe-Landerron. Many cyclists have stayed here. Beautiful canal, beautiful landscape, a few locks, a few places to stop for refreshments. Not always the best interface.
