As a memorial to the countless war dead, such a "military cemetery"—in German, they are usually referred to as a "war gravesite" or "soldier's cemetery"—remains very important to this day. "Now, Lord, you let your servant depart in peace, as you have said...", it says in the so-called "Hymn of Simeon" (Luke 2:29). However, the many people buried here did not depart in peace, but rather became victims of war and an inhumane tyranny. The most important and at the same time perpetual function of military cemeteries, honorary cemeteries, or war cemeteries is therefore to keep the memory of this suffering alive and to remind each generation anew (!) of the need to maintain lasting peace.

French cemetery in the middle of the forest between the Tête des Immerlins 1216 meters and the Tête des Faux 1208 meters. Starting from the Col du Calvaire it is a walk on a wide flat path, well almost and with beautiful views of Orbey, Labaroche etc...

the descent on the silver valley is magical to do at full speed, good tour

There are no cars here early in the morning. Perfect peace and quiet and a long but moderate climb in both directions with a correspondingly fun descent

This was the second cemetery on my tour today. An oppressive feeling in the middle of the beautifully illuminated forest.
