Here, the deeply incised structure of the Wied valley valley becomes visible, which has a sheer depth of up to 100 meters between Neustadt/Wied and Oberlahr. This landscape features numerous steep cliffs and dry, deciduously forested Wied valley slopes like those on the Rhine, geotopes, and open basalt and quartzite quarries that initiated the construction of the railway. A fantastic landscape for outdoor enjoyment, with scenic highlights, natural areas such as floodplains and the unique features of extensive wet meadows in the wide Wied valley floor, dry deciduous forests, steep stream tributaries, and a cultural area for villages and agriculture.

Beautiful, shady location at the confluence of the Almersbach and Wied, bench nearby. People have been making pilgrimages here since the 13th century through a ford. The beautifully situated Almersbach church with late Romanesque origins stands enthroned above.

The Privileged Pharmacy, built in 1730, is located in the pedestrian zone. It is well preserved and an eye-catcher. The first pharmacy was founded in Altenkirchen in 1699 and has stood in the same place ever since.

In addition, maintaining reasonable sales prices was very important and almost mandatory. The pharmacist received certain special rights or tax discounts. The privileged pharmacy is located in one of the oldest buildings in Altenkirchen. The house is a very well-kept and beautiful half-timbered building. The building is also a listed building and its western wall is directly connected to the 800 meter long Altenkirchen city wall.

The half-timbered house of the Privileged Pharmacy was built between 1728 and 1739 by a Major Fabry and its western wall is directly connected to the city wall. The building houses the Privileged Pharmacy, one of the oldest and most traditional pharmacies in the Westerwald. In its more than 300-year history, this pharmacy has been run by more than 22 owners and managers.
