Located at the gates of the Haut-Jura regional natural park, Champagnole is also considered the “pearl of the Jura”. Perched at an altitude of 540 meters on the banks of the Ain, the town is located in a wonderful natural setting. There is also an archaeological museum due to the discovery of remains on Mont Rivel.

The Pont de l'Épée bridge spans the Ain river. When the sun is at its zenith, the color of the water is magnificent. The view of the river and the weir located downstream deserves a short break.

This city in the Middle Ages was a highly strategic place. For more than 300 years, from the 13th to the 16th century, its inhabitants controlled the commercial exploitation of salt by establishing rights of passage for merchants who went to Switzerland. So you will find in its center many beautiful period houses, irrefutable testimonies of this ancient wealth. The castle of the princes of Oranges was destroyed, and did not stand the test of time.

The Gorges de La Saine, located in the Jura department, are a breathtaking natural wonder. Carved by the La Saine river, these deep and narrow gorges offer breathtaking views of the steep cliffs.

Medieval town

This former house of the master of the Syam ironworks Jean-Emmanuel Jobez impresses with its incongruity. This castle, which is inspired by Italian culture, is also called Villa Palatina. Close to the forges, this building and the stables that go with it are however built at a good distance to avoid the noise pollution of the industrial steel site on the riverbank. This place is surprising in the heart of the Jura. Although the residence is private property, the rooms on the ground floor and the important library on the top floor are open to visitors. The stables host various events.
