Very pretty path which goes up to the Caroux tower (1090 m)

Quiet road that goes up a small stream, in the scrubland. A bit bumpy road, but very passable.

At the intersection, take the path on the left and climb up to the edge of the beech forest. Reach the tower (highest point of the Caroux plateau, at 1,091 m) and continue along the path that goes down. Follow the track on the right. In two wide bends (viewpoint on the right over the Graissessac mining basin, the watchtower of the Rosis mountain, the Aret mountain and the wind farm of the Espinouse mountain), it leads back to the car park.

The Col du Layrac is a great exit objective. Whether for its ascent via wooded roads and trails or its clear summit which offers a lovely panorama of the surrounding massifs.

This departmental road crosses the village of Serviès, located in the eponymous valley. It also criss-crosses the Monts d’Orb national forest between Avène and the Col de Layrac, which marks the transition between the departments of Hérault and Aveyron. Very wooded, this road is a breath of fresh air on very hot days. The surface is generally in good condition, and the ascent to the pass as well as the descent to Avène are very pleasant. If you wish to stop there, two lodges are located in the valley: the Cartayade lodge on the south side, and the relay of Marie-Claude and Jacky Theron a little further north. These are two welcoming places with a lot of charm, and you will be well fed and housed there as well as advised on your adventures. It is obviously possible (and encouraged!) to take a hike around the gîtes to discover the surrounding area.

Superb segment located on the V84 / Véloccitanie which connects Béziers to Bédarieux, as well as in the Haut-Languedoc regional natural park. It crosses 3 of the 18 landscape units of the park: the Coteaux Viticoles du Faugérois, the Serres, valleys, basins and small causses of the Avants-Monts, and finally the Plains and Coteaux de l'Orb Moyen. On this road, fields of olive trees follow arbutus trees, holm oaks, cork oaks, chestnut trees, and shade the vineyards. Aromatic herbs perfume the air, dry stone walls line the path. It is a little-traveled road, which invites meditation. Did you dream of the south? You are there, without concession.
