9월 22, 2025, Truc de Fortunio
The Fortunio peak is the highest point in the Margeride massif. It is therefore naturally designated as the ideal observation post for Lake Charpal.

The Jalabert climb in Mende is a beautiful wall that requires gear and a warm-up before attacking it. We measure the difficulty faced by the riders of the tour for whom I have the greatest respect.

From its height of 1,552m, the Truc de Fortunio dominates the Margeride. The panorama that is offered to you and the granite chaos at its summit offer magnificent photos worthy of a postcard.

Mende is the most important town in the department of Lozère. It is a really old city, since its foundation dates from - 200 years before Jesus Christ. Its many medieval buildings make its reputation. You will be able to discover, among other things, its superb cathedral which has the strange particularity of having uneven bell towers. The city owes its wealth in part to its production of draperies, and thus became an important commercial crossroads between the Languedoc region and Auvergne. I particularly like its fountain with its massive stone ball rolling on itself in the water.

8월 5, 2021, Village Mort de La Chaumette
On the Causse de Mende, above the town, there are two villages which were sold to the State by their last inhabitants in 1905: Gerbal and La Chaumette. At this date, there remains an inhabitant in Gerbal and a family in La Chaumette. We are far from the fifteen families who lived here at the beginning of the 19th century. These villages lived off the breeding of sheep and the cultivation of wheat. But from the 16th century, the demand for wool exploded in Europe. The herds are growing, which leads to the deforestation of more and more areas and the exhaustion of land. It is therefore depleted and leached land which is ceded to the State, which establishes the current forest there. Of these villages there remain the ruins of the dwellings, with the exception of a Chaumette complex restored by the ONF in the 1960s. These houses, entirely in limestone, are models of the Caussenard habitat. The main building has two levels, ground floor housing and the floor dedicated to storage, is accompanied by a sheepfold surmounted by its barn. All of these constructions are made of stone, there is no wood of sufficient quality and size or at too high a cost. There were only two villages because there are only two sources of water, which had to supplement several cisterns and lavognes (artificial pond to water the cattle).

The Cathedral of the Diocese of Mende (Cathedrale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Privat) was built next to Mary St. Privatus consecrated by Mende, over whose grave it is said to have been built. The Gothic church received the rank of a minor basilica in 1874 and has been a listed monument since 1906. In the 1360s, Pope Urban V decided to build the Gothic cathedral and furnished it with a rich inventory. After his death in 1370 as a result of the Hundred Years' War, the building was inactive for a long time. The structure was completed in 1466. As early as 1487, the nave was lengthened by two bays, and the steeples were completed in 1508 and 1512. Mende was conquered by the Protestants in the turmoil of the Huguenot Wars in 1579 and the cathedral was badly damaged by the destruction of central pillars in 1581 as part of a protection racket, only the towers remained intact. Between 1599 and 1605 the reconstruction took place according to the original plans, the new church consecration took place in 1620. The stained glass windows created at that time were destroyed in 1793. In the 19th century a neo-Gothic portal was added to the cathedral.

The place has a medieval, historical city center. Worth seeing are u. a. the Gothic cathedral Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Privat (construction started in 1368) and a medieval bridge, the Pont Notre-Dame from the 13th century. The town is the starting point for excursions to the Tarn river gorges.
