The Torra di Prunete is a historic Genoese tower on the east coast of Corsica, in the municipality of Cervione. It was built around 1580 and restored in 1710. This round, slightly conical tower was part of a defensive system built by the Republic of Genoa in the 16th and 17th centuries to protect the island from Barbary pirate raids. The system, known as the Torregiana, consisted of around 150 towers located within sight of each other and communicating with each other through smoke or fire signals. The tower's architecture reflects the typical design of Genoese towers: it is round, slightly conical, and has several floors. On the ground floor is a cistern for collecting rainwater, above it is a living quarters for the guards, and an observation deck accessible via an internal staircase. Today, the Torra di Prunete is an important cultural heritage site and a testament to Corsica's history. Although privately owned, it remains a fascinating example of the military architecture of the Genoese Republic
