This is where the Sauer River, coming from the Vosges Mountains, flows into the Rhine. The estuary delta is a large floodplain with a wide variety of amphibians and birds – protected since 1997.

Entry is currently free. The restaurant is managed again (during the last visit it was without a tenant/operator).

the beach marked here is NOT public but private (club, Paddelclub Illingen). Entering is tolerated at most. If you want to sunbathe or swim here, you run the risk of being sent away.

The Sauer Delta nature reserve is an idyllic setting for cycling. The alluvial forest that composes it offers a dream habitat with a particularly rich biodiversity. In particular, ash, oak, elm and white poplar are found on the tree species side. The fauna is home to a great ornithological wealth, with 183 listed species, including 77 nesting ones.

With an area of around 133 ha, it is the largest quarry pond in Baden-Württemberg[2]. It reaches a depth of up to 33 meters. The quarry pond is now more than two kilometers long and up to one kilometer wide. The Ried Canal flows into the Rhine via the Gold Canal in the north at Rhine kilometer 347.2.
