Beautiful route, also worth a walk to see the broom in bloom.

On the western edge of the Raßberg stands this simple memorial stone made of local basalt, commemorating Konrad Adenauer. During his term in office, he donated funds to support the historical preservation of the heathlands – particularly through sheep grazing. At 665 meters, the Raßberg is one of the highest elevations in the Eifel, characterized by open juniper heath, heather, and broom. While hiking the Raßberg, it's worth stopping briefly to not only enjoy the view and the heath, but also to appreciate the history behind the stone.

The Menke-Höhe is an atmospheric vantage point amidst a unique heath landscape. Easily accessible via hiking trails, it offers a seating area with a magnificent view – a true gem for anyone who loves tranquil nature and panoramic views.

The Selbach Gorge Valley can be easily combined with other regional trails, such as the Eifel Ladder Route or the Bergheidenweg dream trail, which leads into the Vordereifel and along the Nette River and into the Selbach Valley.

The dream trail "Bergheidenweg" lives up to its name: The route leads through vast heathlands into the Heidbüchel nature reserve, where, at the highest point, an impressive view of the landscape opens up. The trail continues along the Nette River before entering the wildly romantic Selbachtal valley with its striking rock formations. A quiet forest passage and the transition to open fields provide a variety of impressions, until another spectacular view into the distance awaits at a mountain hut. Shortly before the end of the hike, you circle the Raßberg mountain – another scenic highlight. The tour is particularly charming in late summer, when the heath is in full bloom and the landscape is bathed in a sea of purple.

Memorial stone in recognition of the outstanding achievements of Dr. Heinrich Menke in the field of nature conservation. In 1964, the nature reserve was ceremoniously opened to the public. In this context, the memorial stone was unveiled by the then district president.

The juniper heaths in Arft, Langscheid, and Virneburg are among the hidden treasures of the Vordereifel region. Their origins are the result of traditional "Schiffelwirtschaft" (ship-farming) – a special form of agriculture. Sheep and goats grazed here for many generations. Since fertilization was neglected for cost reasons, the soil became nutrient-poor over time. This created exceptional habitats that today provide a home for rare and protected animal and plant species.
