Easily Hawaii's most-recognized landmark, Lē'ahi, or Diamond Head, is the unmistakable profile you can see to the east from Waikiki. It got its name from Westerners who mistook the calcite crystals in the summit crater for diamonds. Lē'ahi is surrounded by almost 500 acres of Diamond Head State Monument, which is open only from 6am-6pm. If you are not a Hawai'i resident with Hawai'i ID, you must make advance reservations online before you visit; entry is $5 per person for non-residents, and $10 per vehicle if you are driving. The Diamond Head, called Lēʻahi (Forehead of the Tuna) in Hawaiian, rises 232 meters high on the island of Oahu. The imposing tuff formation is the landmark of Honolulu. The English name comes from the 19th century, when western explorers mistook the calcite crystals in the rock for diamonds. The crater was formed by an eruption around 300,000 years ago. A hike up to the edge of the crater is highly recommended. The Wailea Oceanfront Boardwalk is a picturesque pathway along the coastline of Wailea, a resort area on the island of Maui. The boardwalk offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and access to some of Maui's most beautiful beaches, including Wailea Beach and Ulua Beach. Enjoy a nice stroll along the path (especially beautiful during sunsets!)
