The church was built in 1865 by Father Migorel, who supposedly had three visions of a church to be built on a hilltop at the junction of three roads. It was consecrated in 1867 and opened for worship. The octagonal tower, erected in 1871, is decorated with polychrome bricks and topped with four turrets housing statues of archangels.

Judging by the historical memories attached to this commune and by the ruins of castles and hamlets that can be found there, Crucey, whose name was formerly written Crucé, must have had, in ancient times, a certain importance. A railway "via strata", called Caesar, separates the commune of Crucey from that of Vitray where we find it under the name of "via perrata". In the 15th century, the commune of Crucey existed in a place called Bois-Armand, but it was completely ruined at the time of the wars between the English and Normans. Several hamlets, of which only the fields recall the name, were destroyed and, since then, the commune has reformed a kilometer further to the north, in the place it occupies today. The church of Crucey, mentioned from the 10th century, belonged to the abbey of Saint-Père. By prefectural decree of 07/12/1972 (J.O. of 10/01/1973, n° 8, page 480) the communes of Crucey, Mainterne, and Vitray-sous-Brezolles, were united into a single commune which took the name of Crucey Villages, and whose chief town is located in the former commune of Crucey.
