The original Marian shrine "La Salette", which is referred to here, is located in the French Alps (Arrondissement of Grenoble) and is an important Marian shrine, even if it does not have the fame of other pilgrimage places in honor of the Mother of God - such as Lourdes in the French Pyrenees or Fatima in Portugal.

This astonishing church was built at the initiative of the village priest in 1865. The latter wanted to commemorate the apparitions of Notre-Dame de La Salette dating from 1846. At the top of the tower, a metal-framed glass roof houses a group of statues. representing the appearance of the Virgin before the two Savoyard children, Maximin and Mélanie. The building seems to be inspired by many styles: baroque, Byzantine and modernism of the time.
