A remote port in the French Pyrenees with narrow roads in perfect condition where you can enjoy the beauty of the green pastures and the absolute tranquility of the place. It is an area where the weather is very changeable and you can have wonderful days or cold and rainy days in summer. It is an alternative road to the Col d'Errozate and connects with Surzai Lepoa. Without a doubt, a magical place and highly recommended.

Beautiful village which exudes Basque soul with its pediment next to the church. Note, a very cool fountain on one of the town squares which can save your day before facing the port of Larrau or the Bagargi. There is also another small fountain with a tap in the stone wall along the main road.

The town of Larrau is located on a mountainside with views over the two separating valleys. If you need water, there is a beautiful fountain with water inside the town. It is worth stopping to get water before facing the 11 km that remain to the port of Larrau.

Directly at the Col Bagargiak is the Gite for hikers. I spent night no. 10 here. Small, uncomfortable room on the upper floor for €15 (2018). Accommodation and shopping facilities at GR10 and HRP: Cottage settlement with restaurant and small grocery store. The overnight prices are quite expensive. One of the chalets is designed with 2-3 person rooms especially for hikers. At the beginning of September 2016 we got a place to sleep without a reservation. But you probably can't rely on that. There is also an associated campsite down the road towards Lac d'Iraty, but we didn't see it ourselves.

From Larrau, the pass begins with a descent ... Then the percentages increase slightly (4%, 6%, 6%) before becoming quite severe (from memory 9.5, 12, 13, 12.5 and 11). If we add that the ascent is done without the slightest tree to shelter from the sun, that gives a very trying pass! I almost forgot to appreciate the scenery: /
