Bridges have existed at this river crossing for centuries. The new chain bridge follows the tradition. It connects the gardener town with the island town. The supporting structure of the bridge consists of a polygon, constructed from chain links, repeating the idea of the historical bridge with the stone pylons by Leo von Klenze.

The Chain Bridge is definitely a photo spot, with a beautiful view of the Main-Danube Canal, and about a 5-minute walk from Bamberg Train Station. Traffic-free area. Cars are allowed to drive over it in both directions, but only slowly.
There is seating and an ice cream parlor right at the beginning of the bridge.
The Chain Bridge is also a great start to walk along the Main-Danube Canal to Hirschaid, Forchheim, Erlangen, Fürth or Nuremberg.

The current chain bridge takes design elements of the old chain bridge - one of the previous bridges was ultimately the template for the famous New York Brooklyn Bridge.
Currently a traffic-calmed zone with plenty of seating, but it is not just a pedestrian bridge, as the user Rosefahrer called it, but can still be used by vehicles in both directions.
