The city of Jüterbog is the second oldest city in the state of Brandenburg and consists of various medieval settlement cores, which differ significantly from one another to this day. The city fortifications in Jüterbog, which were built in the Middle Ages, also included three city gates that gave access to the city. All three city gates were originally built as double gates. An outer gate had to be passed in front of the actual gate to the city. Each of the three inner city gates was protected by two towers
are partially preserved. Parts of the Jüterbog town gates fell victim to the increasing traffic at the beginning of the 19th century.

With its walls, towers and gates, Jüterbog still bears witness to the city's defensive capacity in the Middle Ages. The city wall is one of the oldest in the state of Brandenburg. In the 16th century, the city was considered impregnable due to its strong fortifications.
