The Naval Memorial in Laboe was built between 1927 and 1936 as a memorial to the German marines who died in the First World War. Later, the memorial was added to commemorate the members of the Kriegsmarine who died in the Second World War. Since it was taken over by the German Marine Association on May 30, 1954, the memorial, which was converted into a memorial in 1996, has commemorated the sailors of all nations who remained at sea and reminds people of peaceful seafaring on the open seas. The submarine U 995, which can also be viewed from the inside, was erected in 1972 as a technical museum and memorial on the beach directly in front of the memorial.
