Nobody knows where the volcano erupted, bringing the white and greenish-gray quartz keratophyr into the Steinach Gorge. The special climate in the gorge, which is due to the rock, the natural river and the floodplain forests, makes it a suitable home for endangered fish and bird species. And who can not do anything with all this, will simply enjoy the aesthetics of the wild and romantic natural monument.

By the way, the shortest access directly to the gorge is possible from the Steinachtal south of Wildenstein.

This special natural monument was created thousands of years ago. The Steinach River ate deeper and deeper through an extremely hard volcanic rock, which is called “quartz keratophyre”. The Steinachklamm geotope with its steep slopes and the narrow section of the gorge south of Wildenstein is definitely worth seeing.

Very nice hiking trail along the water. The forest is naturally kept. Nature is left to its own devices.
