On July 27, 2021, the Lower Germanic Limes (NGL) was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Lower Germanic Limes was an important border section of the Roman Empire. It followed the ancient course of the Rhine and stretched for approximately 400 kilometers between Katwijk (NL) on the North Sea to Bad Breisig in Rhineland-Palatinate. The Romans used the river as a natural barrier to approach. Unlike other Limes sections, no linear border fortifications were necessary here on the "wet Limes."

With summer temperatures and high humidity after a rainy low pressure system had passed through, I preferred to carry on walking 😂. The mosquitoes eat you alive - and not just in this shelter 🦟 .

The shelter and “Zum Sangers Kreuz” are opposite each other. I don’t understand why there are two highlights for this. For me, they belong together.

Once you reach the “water tower”, you have either reached the top or it goes steeply downhill 😎 (depending on the direction you are heading). I am happy when I see it.
