Today, it serves the purpose of distributing raw water for industrial water supply and fish farming. The Konstantinteich is located in the middle of a typical former mining area with spoil heaps and mine shafts.

The Konstantin mine is part of the Alte Mordgrube mining field and was sunk in 1844. After the ore extraction came to an end, a cavern power plant was installed in the 1920s, which supplied electricity for Freiberg until 1972.
