Even today, one can see, for example at the house at Petersstraße 46 or at Pfarrgasse 18, how Freiberg citizens publicly professed their commitment to the Reformation of the Church as early as the 1520s. They often did so with the biblical verse that was understood as a confession of faith in the Reformation and later became the motto of the Lutheran Wettin dynasty through Duke Henry: Verbum Domini manet in aeternum – The word of the Lord endures forever (Isaiah 40:8; 1 Peter 1:25).
