A futuristic suspension bridge for hikers and cyclists spans the Zschopau river. Coming from Limmritz, you have to search a bit (past the railway museum on the right) to find the start of the bridge.

From here, high above, you have a phenomenal view of the Zschopau river.

The Diedenhain Viaduct is 210 meters long and 51 meters high. It is part of the Limmritz–Waldheim section of the Riesa–Chemnitz railway, also known as the Bankruptcy Mile. The costs of building the six viaducts, retaining walls, and earthworks on a stretch of just 7.5 kilometers caused the private railway company to become insolvent. In 1850, the company was nationalized, and two years later, the line was incorporated into the Niederrhein Railway as part of the Niederrhein Railway.

Such a suspension bridge is not only a connection to the other shore, but also a small moment of peace and wonder amidst nature. A beautiful place to pause for a moment and take in the beauty of the surroundings.

The Waldheim correctional facility in Waldheim was once the largest penitentiary in Saxony and is the oldest prison in Germany still in operation. Many prisoners were also imprisoned in the Waldheim penitentiary for political crimes, both in the National Socialist German Reich and later in the GDR. The penitentiary is used to incarcerate male first-time offenders. There are 377 places available in closed prison and 18 places in open prison.
