The Aa River meanders through a natural depression in the landscape here. Since 2000, this depression, approximately 52 hectares in size, has been used to temporarily store water when flooding from the Aa threatens. From the grass banks surrounding Starkriet, you can see the abundance of water stored there. Traditionally, "the Starkriet" was submerged for much of the year. This led to the development of peat and swamp forests with willows and alders. After the Aa was straightened in the 1960s, the Aa water could drain more quickly, and Starkriet became largely pastureland. The Starkriet was still too wet for arable farming. You can walk through the Starkriet when the water level is low.

Near Someren-Eind lies a so-called inundation area, an area that can be used during high water. The Aa, Eeuwelse Loop, and Staakrijt streams (could this be the origin of the area's name?) flow through the Starkriet area (also sometimes called Staakriet). During heavy rainfall, many nearby areas experience significant flooding, but Starkriet is designed to temporarily retain large amounts of water, thus limiting the impact. From the Kwart voor Twaalf – Teunis Spekbaan intersection, you can take a walk of approximately 5 kilometers. It's also possible to extend the route to include the fishing pond (De Witte Bergen), making it approximately 8 kilometers long.

St. Anthony of Padua Church is the parish church of Heusden, part of the Dutch municipality of Asten, located at Vorstermansplein 14. This single-nave church was built in 1921 based on a design by Hendrik Vorstermans. The brick church was built in the Neo-Gothic style. The church has a pointed ridge turret as its tower. The facade features a church portal flanked by two chapels. The church is a listed municipal monument.

In Heusden, in the municipality of Asten in North Brabant, lies the 12-hectare Witte Bergen fishing pond, near the Peelpoort campsite. The pond is situated in a beautiful nature reserve and was created by the construction of the N279 highway in the 1960s. The carp population is considered good. There is an island in the pond with several lily pads and reed beds, which are popular with carp and tench. The pond has a depth of 1.5 to 2.10 meters, and several fishing jetties have been placed over part of the pond. The pond is accessible on foot or by bike. It is also a short walk from the nearby parking areas. However, a trolley is a must for the heavily laden carp angler. To fish there, you need a fishing permit from HSV Ons Genoegen Asten; day permits are also available.
