The Deep Well is still considered a technical masterpiece. Over a construction period of six years, from 1543 to 1549, a 92-meter-deep shaft was excavated with great effort and then reinforced step by step with massive, custom-made sandstone blocks. Until November 1902, the Deep Well was the only source of drinking water for Betzenstein and the surrounding area. The dancing linden tree is in the forest on the south-eastern outskirts of Spies. The tree veteran is about 500 years old, has a circumference of a good 6 meters and the "Linden-Kerwa" takes place here every year on the first weekend in July.
