The direct, unmarked descent to the SW is extremely steep, narrow between the trees - should be called the Masochist's Trail... It is, however, diligently used in both directions. The Gratlspitze is Alpbach's local mountain. The striking mountain rises directly above Alpbach's many wooden houses. It is actually not a single peak, but a yoke with several peaks. Seen from below, the mountain seems invincible - the rocks in the summit area are so steep. The hike is not that extreme, but can be viewed as moderately difficult. However, sure-footedness and a head for heights are necessary in the summit area. Three main routes lead from the Alpbachtal up to the summit. Depending on your preference, you can vary the route or turn it into a circular hike.
