After a 50 nm crossing from France we are now in England. One imagines arriving in good old England a bit differently, like Daniel Defoe. However, the marina looks different than expected, new buildings all around, probably all holiday apartments. Charming nonetheless.

Ashburnham Place was a fine manor house until the mid-20th century. The landscape park with three lakes was created by the grandiose landscape architect Capability Brown. Today the property belongs to a Christian community that runs a restaurant with highly recommended organic food. The homemade bread is also very good.

Pevensey Bay Beach is a lovely stretch of coastline on the shore of Pevensey Bay fishing village. During Norman times, the beach would have been underwater, but it gradually emerged from the sea due to the erosion of Beachy Head at Eastbourne. You will see many Martello towers along the beach which were built as Napoleonic defences in the early 19th century. You'll find cafes, toilets and picnic benches along the beach.
