The cross, also known as the Croix sur le chemin de Fort-Pays, is attached to a chestnut tree at the entrance to a path leading through the meadows to Lammerschot and then on to Saint-Jean-Sart. This type of wayside cross belongs to the so-called petit patrimoine sacré—small religious heritage—typical of the Pays de Herve and Wallonia. Such crosses traditionally served as spiritual beacons for travelers, pilgrims, and local residents, and are often placed at crossroads, paths, or village entrances.

A 20th-century cross, located just before/after the well-known St. Anne's Chapel at a crossroads. The cross is cataloged by the municipality of Aubel, but without any specifications other than "20th century." The chapel has its own unique highlight.

The Chapelle Sainte-Anne in Aubel is a historic field chapel dating from 1658, located on Eyckerweg northwest of the village center. Dedicated to Saint Anne, the chapel was rebuilt in the early 19th century using brick on a sandstone base, retaining the original 17th-century limestone facade. Inside, there is a wooden altar with a statue of Saint Anne holding a bunch of grapes, a symbol of fertility, and a polychrome statue of the Virgin Mary from the same period.

At the edge of the pond near Val-Dieu Abbey stands the José Schyns observation hut, a peaceful spot where you can experience nature undisturbed. From the wooden hut, you have a beautiful view of the pond and the surrounding valley, ideal for observing birds and other animals in their natural habitat. The hut is named after José Schyns, a nature lover and bird conservationist who was committed to protecting and experiencing the wildlife in this region. It is a place that invites silence, mindfulness, and wonder.

The countryside surrounding Val-Dieu offers vast fields, green meadows, and rolling hills—the perfect setting for a peaceful walk or bike ride. The landscape exudes the charm and tranquility of the Belgian hills.
