Soiron boasts many well-preserved houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. Built from the local grayish-yellowish limestone, they contribute to the character of this charming village.

An old chapel listed as a Walloon monument. Originally, a chapel was probably built here in 1599. Since then, the chapel has been given various names and saints. After the 1692 Verviers earthquake, the famous statue of Our Lady of the Recollects of Verviers was placed in the chapel. Today, it is the chapel of St. Roch. For years, she was visited by people with toothaches. A legend is attached to her.

The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Cornesse can be seen from far away. The church is massively built and has a large bell tower. Unfortunately it is not always open, but an information board about the church is posted on the other side of the street.

Nestled between rolling hills, ash groves and meadows, deep down in the valley of the Bola stream lies the dreamy village of Soiron. You won't find any street names here, but you can't get lost anyway, because from every corner of the village you can see the pointed-towered church of Saint Roch, which marks the centre of the village.

In 1692 the entire village, except for the church tower, was destroyed by an earthquake and was subsequently rebuilt. Soiron was included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia (Les plus beaux villages de Wallonie) because of its numerous buildings in the Meuse Renaissance style. The first mention of the place can be found in a document dated August 13, 1005, when the St. Adalbertstift in Aachen was awarded the neighboring villages of Soiron and Olne by Henry II. Although the current neo-Gothic church only dates from 1896, a chapel was founded here in 1694, then in honor of the Holy Family and Saint Anne. In 1749 the parishioners were allowed to build a larger chapel, which was elevated to a parish church in 1803. Another tip: On the wall of the house on the corner of Rue Bouhais and Rue Mortbonhomme there is an information and photo board about the history of the church and the village center.
