The best times to visit Ischia by bicycle are winter, autumn and spring when the crowds of tourists have not yet filled the island. However, you always need to be careful on the roads because the traffic can be a bit unruly even in the low season, especially on the coastal road.

The Port of Ischia is a natural port of unique beauty. In ancient times it was a volcanic lake, and was opened to the sea by King Ferdinand II of Bourbon who in 1854 ensured the island a safe seaport.

The sovereign had a wooden bridge built that connected the islet to the main island (which would later be replaced by a stone one), while until the mid-fifteenth century the only means of access to the castle consisted of an external staircase some ruins of which can still be glimpsed from the sea, on the side facing the island of Vivara.

Inside the Chiesa del Soccorso, there is the chapel of the Crucifix which dates back to 1791; the crucifix is a wooden sculpture from the 15th century and according to popular legend, it was found at sea by some sailors who, unable to return due to the poor conditions, placed the cross inside the church.

The church of the Madonna del Soccorso stands on a small promontory overlooking the sea and is dedicated to the cult of the Madonna della Nave; it is white, stands out from afar and represents the classic Mediterranean construction.
