The construction of the Church, by will of the Monaldeschi della Cervara and dedicated to the birth of the Virgin, dates back to the beginning of the 13th century when they assigned it to the Friars Minor Conventual of St. Francis. Its structure has a single nave and on the north side it has a raised apse. The ceiling has a roof with the technique of exposed truss. The church has undergone various transformations over the centuries, the most important of which date back to the 18th century when the original Gothic appearance was altered by the new Baroque style. Of particular interest are: the frescoes in the nave attributed to Romanelli; those in the apse attributed to Davanzarano; a crucifixion with two saints from the 16th century near the exit and at the bottom of the right wall a fresco depicting St. Anthony with scenes of miracles of the Saint; on the opposite wall, the tomb of the Monaldeschi della Cervara. It hosts companies participating in theatrical and non-theatrical festivals; concerts with choirs, musicians and singers of world fame; dance companies, it lends itself to conferences and conventions of various kinds.
