The historic center of Bolsena climbs from the lake toward the medieval fortress, through stone alleys, arches, and glimpses that suddenly open onto the water. The tuff houses and small squares tell a story that intertwines the Middle Ages and lakeside tradition. The spiritual heart of the village is the Basilica of Santa Cristina, linked to the famous Eucharistic Miracle of the 13th century.

The complex, with its entrance on Via della Cava, lies beneath Orvieto's oldest neighborhood. Divided into nine underground areas, it is rich in Etruscan, medieval, and Renaissance finds, brought to light only recently after nearly four centuries of abandonment. The tour isn't very long (about 30 minutes if you read each description carefully), but it's absolutely worth it, especially for the price of just 4 euros.

The beating heart of the city, Piazza della Repubblica is today the meeting place of Orvieto's residents. Once the site of public events and papal ceremonies, it houses the Church of Sant'Andrea and the Town Hall.

Essential and sober, it is managed voluntarily, and is equipped with everything necessary for residential courses, study stays, and training experiences. The gardens are set up with tables to allow for outdoor group work sessions, there are two large internal conference rooms, plus other common areas, and an international library - with various stations - specialized in sustainable development, cooperation, and food security. The Convent is located on the Via Francigena, and enthusiastically hosts pilgrims. A short walk from the Basilica of S. Cristina and the Church of the Miracle, the Convent is close to the historic center while enjoying tranquility and silence as it is surrounded by countryside. A very particular monument is the one in Piazza Cahen in Orvieto. The work of an artist from Orvieto, Angelo Cocchieri, who sculpted a Victory crowning dying soldiers, it was inaugurated by King Vittorio Emanuele III on November 25, 1928. It is called the Altar of the Five Hundred because that is the estimated number of Orvieto fallen. The curiosity of this monument is that the names of the fallen in the list, unfortunately difficult to read especially in the upper part, are rigorously categorized. It begins with those who fell in the wars of independence, and then continues with those who fell in the colonial wars and in the Great War 1915-18, in turn with their subcategories: those who died from combat wounds in captivity; those who died from torpedoing on a steamship; those who died from accidents; those who died from illness in Italy; those who died from illness in captivity; missing on the battlefield; missing in captivity; missing in an unspecified place; born outside of Orvieto or domiciled here; deaths by accident; deaths by combat wounds in Italy.
