San Lorenzo Nuovo is a village located on the north side of the Volsini Mountains just five kilometers from the shores of Lake Bolsena. The city was founded in 1779 by the inhabitants of San Lorenzo alle Grotte, who had to move because of the presence of malaria-carrying swamps that made the air unhealthy. The historic center of the village is of a neoclassical style dating back to 700. The town has a particular urban structure consisting of a series of houses that follow the octagonal shape of Piazza Europa, the town center where the Church of San Lorenzo stands.
San Lorenzo Nuovo was established in 1774 by decree of Pope Clement century. In contrast to the surrounding towns with a typically medieval character, this one retains a neoclassical historic centre, dominated by the majestic church of San Lorenzo which overlooks a spacious octagonal square.
Suggestive octagonal square even if the original main square is the one with the fountain showing the image of San Lorenzo with the grill in his hand, in the old town
