The Cheggio Dam was built by the Edison Company between 1922 and 1926 in order to intercept the course of the Loranco River thus generating the artificial lake Lago dei Cavalli. Through penstocks, the basin feeds the "G.B. Pirelli" hydroelectric plant in Rovesca with an operating capacity of 45.6 MW. The plant is now owned by Enel Green Power.
