The food at the "Zu den grauen Ziegenböcken" inn is very good. Overnight accommodation is available. The breakfast is very plentiful and also very good. Highly recommended.

This is a very quiet part of the Saale cycle path.

A little insider tip is the juice bar. Here you can get delicious soft-serve ice cream 😋 and homemade hot chocolate. They also have other great things. The price/performance ratio is perfect.

I did exactly what Dirk described. I took the train from Jena to Camburg and then cycled along the Zuckerbahn cycle path. After a slight climb, the path becomes very flat and has many crossings over more or less busy roads. Of course, there are also many bridges. Orientation was sometimes difficult, but my intuition helped. Zeitz is very beautiful, but finding the Elster cycle path to Gera from there isn't easy. Still doable. 😁 Highly recommended.

There are some good, covered rest areas along the Zuckerbahn cycle path, and good asphalt. You're away from traffic. Otherwise, it's a typical railway cycle path…straight ahead and no view. Trees and bushes on the left and right. Practical. 😅

After the 2013 flood left severe damage to the bridge, it was meticulously renovated in 2017. The cladding of the arch alone (sandstone? 🤔 ) makes the bridge a real eye-catcher. 👍 Anyone who remembers the bridge's condition before the renovation will certainly fondly remember how the extended roadway arches practically tempted people to "roll over" it like a roller coaster.
