The small church of San Defendente sits perched on a rocky outcrop high above Lake Iseo. From here, a breathtaking panoramic view opens up over the lake, the Corna Trentapassi, and the surrounding mountains. Especially at sunrise or sunset, the scenery transforms into a magical play of light – a perfect place to linger, marvel, and take photos. The short, but at times steep, climb is more than rewarded by the view. Several benches and picnic tables next to the church invite you to rest. Surrounded by nature, with expansive views of the water and mountains, this spot is a true highlight of any hike on Lake Iseo. Excellent viewpoint in the northern part of Lake Iseo, at the beginning and end of the rock/tunnel route between Castro and Riva di Solto.

The Church of San Defendente is located in Solto Collina, in the province of Bergamo, and offers a breathtaking view of Lake Iseo. Situated at 674 meters above sea level, it is a popular destination for walks and excursions. The church is managed by the local Alpini group and hosts a very popular festival on the first Sunday in July. The structure of the church is simple but fascinating: a nave covered by a wooden roof and a presbytery covered by a barrel vault. The only altar, made of black Riva marble with polychrome inlays, dates back to the seventeenth century. Unfortunately, the oratory was recently stripped of the altarpiece, a canvas depicting the Madonna and Child with Saints Defendente and Francis, made in 1632. The route to reach the church is equally evocative, with paths that connect the Rocca di Castro with Solto Collina, offering spectacular views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.
