When we visited in June 2024, the path was heavily marked by the effects of winter. Some parts had slipped and were badly torn up by fallen rocks. It was still possible to walk it, but it was a little more difficult than usual - it's steep either way!

Stunning view. Downhill and Val Senales much smoother. It's better to climb up from the Pflenderstal (push it for 3 hours!) and ski down to the Schnalstal.

Wonderful place: tiring to reach it by MTB, but once at the top the view is spectacular! I recommend the ascent from Val Senales and Val di Fosse and descent from Val Passiria!

Since the path over the Hochgangsscharte is only recommended for hikers who are free from giddiness and sure-footed, I would walk the path the other way around. First ride with the Hochmuthbahn, then via the Meraner Höhenweg (No. 24) to the Hochgangshaus and ascent via the Hochgangsscharte to the Spronser lakes. From there to the Oberkaseralm and from there one of the paths that leads back to the Hochmuthbahn. With this path, too, it should be a demanding full-day tour (except for very fit hikers).

At 2,455 m you reach the end of the saddle and have a wonderful view of the Langsee. The ascent to this point is difficult, steep and often exposed. Better not to do it in bad weather. The climb is only recommended for hikers who are free from giddiness and sure-footed. Going up is easier than going down, because then you don't always have the depth of the fall in mind.

Circular tour from Dorf Tirol over the Spronser lakes and then by Hochgangscharte and Hochganghaus back to the Hochmuthbahn - many meters in altitude, but beautiful!

An impressive cross that is not on the summit this time, but on the top of the pass. It's pretty windy here. Great view of both valleys.
