Beautiful little church

Coast of Mezzate

This small church is located near Mount Argon, at the beginning of Val Cavallina. It was built starting in 1121, the current facade was completed in the 17th century and is in Romanesque style. The frescoes inside have been attributed - although there remains a certain degree of uncertainty - to the 17th century artist from Bergamo Pietro Baschenis.

Between Torre de' Roveri and Cenate Sotto, in the Cerbello area, you have a splendid view of the surrounding vineyards. In a landscape that almost resembles that of Valdobbiadene, in the Treviso area, you can cycle without significant traffic.

Originally, the Torre degli Zoppi was a defensive structure that belonged to the fortified complex called “Rasetto”, owned by the noble Bergamo Zoppi family. The name "Rasetto" derives from the word "ricetto", which indicated a place of welcome and refuge. In fact, the Rasetto was used to welcome the local population, mostly peasants, in moments of attack from the outside. It can be assumed that the Rasetto was originally a place defended by wooden palisades and a moat. In the thirteenth century the construction of the village began and on that occasion the Rasetto was reinforced by stone walls; the tower was a defensive corner within this wall. Over the centuries, the Rasetto and the Tower changed their function and from defensive structures they gradually became homes for the local population.

After a very hard climb, there is nothing better than a beautiful panorama, like the one from Via Loreto, overlooking Cenate Sopra.
