A few meters away, the Klosterwasser stream babbles along, almost like a brook, several meters below. We return to the church. Now, after the service, let's take another look inside. It's built in the Late Gothic style. The interior is beautiful, too, with a view of the altar and the interplay of red and white tones. The gallery is lined with statues. The 32-meter-high Red Tower, a former defense and watchtower, is a remnant of the Pulsnitz city gate and has 117 steps. As the name suggests, this street leads to the town of Pulsnitz, 12 km away. City gates were particularly vulnerable in times of war. Therefore, the defenders attempted to protect them with additional walls and towers. In an emergency, many archers could take up positions on it. The tower also served as a municipal prison for the higher ranks.
