The old prison may be small, but it's truly worth seeing. The many explanations inside about the history of the High Middle Ages and the way the nobility treated their subjects at that time make us smile today, but back then they were probably a plague for the poor. The old prison was built in 1774 as Rammenau's second school. Around 1800, up to 200 children were enrolled. The name "old prison" originated in popular parlance because the Rammenau guard, who was responsible for enforcing village ordinances during his nightly patrols, occasionally locked up drunkards and lawbreakers here at night. Between 1920 and 1930, the people of Rammenau called the building "Dog Hole"! A skeleton has been placed on the stairs leading down to the prison as a decorative element.

The Fichtestube Inn, located in the former Erbgericht (court court) on Rammenau's village square, has become a gem both inside and out. Since reopening in 2000, it has taken on the feel of an Italian restaurant. There's an idyllic beer garden behind the building, the municipal office is integrated into the building, and, as was customary in the past, there's also a banquet room for up to 40 people and a hall for up to 120 people.

In 1763, the Rammenau farmers built their own cooperative blacksmith shop on the meadow. For approximately 150 years, blacksmithing was practiced there, then in a new extension until the mid-1960s. In 2010, the building, Rammenau's only half-timbered house, was reopened after extensive renovations. It houses the blacksmith shop, the tourist information office, a faithfully restored log cabin, and the community library. The barn attached to the blacksmith shop and the demonstration blacksmith shop are open from Easter to October, and many beautiful exhibits are on display.

Today's Old Prison was once a school, built in 1774. Historical furnishings can be seen in a small schoolroom. Annually changing exhibitions on the history of the village and its surroundings are held on the upper floor from Easter to October. Due to a lack of space, a new school had to be built just under 100 years later, which already had 245 children enrolled in 1851. The old school, no longer needed, served as a place for the Rammenau night watchman to let drunkards sleep off their drunkenness. Blacksmithing was practiced there for 150 years, then in a new extension until the mid-1960s. In 2010, the building, Rammenau's only half-timbered house, was opened to the public after extensive renovations. Since then, it has housed, among other things, a blacksmith's shop, the tourist information office, a faithfully reproduced block room, and the community library. Over the years, a lovingly designed herb garden has been created in the courtyard of the blacksmith's shop, and visitors can learn about its plants in a herbal book. The barn attached to the blacksmith's shop and the demonstration blacksmith shop are open from Easter to October. Extensive information about Rammenau and the surrounding area can be found in the barn. Furthermore, as in the Old Prison, tourists can also visit annual temporary exhibitions here.
