The castle was probably built at the end of the 11th century. Around 1150, the von Olbrück family—the presumed builders—died out, passing the castle to the Counts of Wied. Today, the castle is leased to the municipality of Brohltal and is one of the region's tourist attractions. The tower is accessible, and in good weather, you can enjoy a magnificent view. It's worth it at any time of year.

Made of basalt, as the dark color of the small stone sacred monument reveals, there is a very old wayside cross here. The inscription is, as the proverbial "ravages of time" dictate, only partially legible; Anne has reproduced it in her article as far as it can be recognized. The niche is striking in its design; perhaps it once housed a saint's figure in earlier times (but that is speculation).

The view from this spot allows you to see two highlights at once: Directly in front of you, the water surface of the "Rodder Maar" glitters, a popular destination for hikers or walkers, and from the wooded mountain in the background rises the (rebuilt) tower of the Olbrück, also a striking landmark of this region.
