11月 1, 2024, Fish Ladder at Lechstaustufe 22 Unterbergen
A fish pass was built at Lech barrage 22 near Unterbergen to improve the ecological continuity of the Lech for migratory fish species. This measure enables fish to overcome the barrage and continue their natural migration routes. Details of the fish pass: • Construction: The facility is designed as a near-natural bypass stream that offers fish the most natural passage possible. • Location: It is located on the western bank of the barrage and can be reached via a hiking trail. • Significance for ecology: The fish pass promotes biodiversity in the Lech, as it enables various fish species to reach their spawning grounds upstream. The fish pass is not only ecologically valuable, but also an interesting destination for nature lovers and hikers. There are numerous hiking trails along the Lech that lead to the barrage and the fish pass. A popular route is the “Lechstaustufe 22 - Unterbergen - Fischtreppe Runde von Unterbergen”, which is described on the Komoot platform. Visitors can observe how the system works and learn more about the efforts to renature the Lech. It is recommended to pay attention to local instructions and to be considerate of nature so as not to disturb the animals' habitats.

11月 1, 2024, Fish Ladder at Lechstaustufe 21 Prittriching
A fish ladder was built at Lech barrage 21 near Prittriching to improve the ecological continuity of the Lech for aquatic life. This project was initiated by Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH and planned and implemented by Bau + Plan Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH. Details of the facility: • Entry structure: A vertical slot pass with 32 basins serves as an entry structure for the fish. • Near-natural channel: An existing drainage ditch was converted into a near-natural flowing water approximately 320 meters long with meander structures, widenings and pools. • Exit structure: Another vertical slot pass with 41 basins forms the exit structure. • Distribution lines: Steel lines with a diameter of 450 mm were installed to supply water. These measures help to restore the migration routes for fish and other aquatic organisms and promote biodiversity in the Lech.

The Lech dams along the Lech are important habitats for water birds and offer ideal conditions for breeding, resting and foraging. Particularly noteworthy are: • Lech dam 23 (Mandichosee): This reservoir is an important resting and breeding place for various water bird species. Regular excursions enable the observation of breeding and migratory birds both on the reservoir and in the adjacent floodplain forest. • Lech dam 27 (Feldheimer reservoir): Designated as a nature reserve since 1982, this reservoir serves as an important breeding and moulting area for water birds as well as a resting and wintering place for Nordic species. • Lech dam 20: Near this dam there is a water bird paradise, where hundreds of water birds frolic between a bird island and the east bank. These areas are not only of interest to ornithologists, but also offer nature lovers the opportunity to experience the diversity of water birds in their natural environment. It is important to be considerate of wildlife when visiting and to observe conservation regulations to preserve these valuable habitats.

11月 1, 2024, Auensee bei Unterbergen
The Auensee near Unterbergen has its intense blue color due to several natural factors: 1. Minerals and sediments: The water of the Auensee contains fine mineral particles and rock sediments that come from the Lech and the surrounding limestone Alps. These particles reflect and scatter the light in a way that makes the water appear in intense blue and turquoise tones. 2. Deep bottom and clear water: The Auensee is comparatively deep and has very good water quality because there is little suspended matter that could absorb the light. This makes the water appear even clearer and bluer. 3. Algae growth: Certain types of algae that proliferate in the Auensee can influence the color of the water. In this case, mainly types of algae grow that allow the blue light to pass through and thus enhance the natural color. 4. Reflection of the sky: On sunny days, the blue color of the sky is reflected on the water surface, which makes the color of the lake appear even more intense. These factors together make the Auensee one of the most visually striking bodies of water in the region and give it its characteristic, bright blue color.

11月 1, 2024, Auensee bei Unterbergen
The Auensee near Unterbergen is not only a popular local recreation area, but also a place with a special scenic charm and ecological significance. The lake was created as part of the Lech regulation and the construction of the Lech dams and is part of the so-called Lechauen ecosystem. It is embedded in the Lechau forest, a valuable natural area with a diverse range of flora and fauna. Nature and ecology The Auensee is surrounded by dense riparian forests that provide a habitat for a variety of animal species. Rare water birds, amphibians and fish can be found here, which find ideal conditions in the calm, clear water. The shore areas are largely natural, which promotes biodiversity and gives the lake a special, nature-loving atmosphere. The lake is also in the catchment area of the Augsburg - Western Forests Nature Park, which means it fits well into the region's nature-oriented landscape. Leisure and relaxation The Auensee is also known for its quiet, relaxed atmosphere and attracts many people looking for a place to relax. The lake shore offers not only bathing areas and sunbathing lawns, but also shady spots under trees, which are particularly popular on hot summer days. The clear water quality is regularly checked and makes the Auensee an attractive bathing resort. Hiking and cycling There are signposted hiking and cycling trails around the lake that connect the Auensee with other attractions in the area, such as the Mandichosee or the Lech barrages. These trails lead through the Lech valley and offer varied routes through forests, along the Lech and past other bodies of water. They are suitable for both relaxed walks and sporty excursions. Historical context The Auensee is located near the Lech barrages 22 and is part of the historic Lech regulation measures that were carried out in the 20th century. These measures were intended to contain flooding in the Lech Valley and at the same time generate energy through hydropower. The Auensee near Unterbergen combines relaxation, nature experiences and scenic beauty and is a popular destination for families, hikers, cyclists and nature lovers alike.

11月 1, 2024, Milestone Via Claudia Augusta
The fort of the Via Claudia was located above the castle courtyards, south of Mertingen. From the Danube near Nordheim, where the Schmutter flows into the Danube, the Via Claudia Augusta was connected to the Roman Danube Southern Road, which ran from west to east. The Via Claudia Augusta followed the course of the Lech upstream via the capital of the Roman province of Raetia, Augusta Vindelicorum (now Augsburg), to Füssen. The milestone in Oberottmarshausen shows the course of the Via Claudia in a straight line across the Lechfeld to Graben.
