The Anninger, a mountain on the Thermenlinie in Lower Austria, consists of a limestone plateau with four peaks, the highest being called Anninger (675 m above sea level), where the brick Wilhelmswarte is also located. The Anninger is located in the Föhrenberge Nature Park in the Vienna Woods. There are many hiking trails on the Anninger.

The foundation stone for this freight terminal was laid on August 2, 2013. In the final stage, the area will be 55 hectares and will concentrate the freight logistics (rail, road) on one location in the south of Vienna. Since the freight stations in Matzleinsdorf (train promotion main station), Nordbahnhof and Nordwestbahnhof (urban expansion areas) were and will be closed, it was necessary to build a terminal at the city limits. The new terminal, which is located at the intersection of the Pottendorfer line and the S1 expressway, will reduce the number of rail shunting trips within the city and also establish a connection to the high-level rail and road network in all main traffic directions. The Vienna South freight center was opened on December 5, 2016.
