Hull Pot is an amazing collapsed cavern that is now just an open limestone scar measuring 91 metres (300 feet) long by 18 metres (60 feet) deep. In dry weather, like today unfortunately, Hull Pot Beck goes underground before it gets to the rim, but in wet weather, it gives way overground to form a stunning waterfall. A stunning place to spend some time!

Thornton Force is the last waterfall on the River Twiss going upriver. For me it was the most impressive waterfall on the Ingleton Waterfalls trai with its 46 ft drop and (at least when we were there) its very impressive flow over the edge and the force of the water landing at the bottom.

A 7km walk that takes in a number of waterfalls and some wondrous countryside.

Add to your route if there has been heavy rainfall so you can admire this natural beauty

Good place to stop for a snack

Perhaps the most impressive of all the falls on the trail and really worth a visit. However, the whole trail is likely to be very busy so don't expect to be alone, and try to come midweek if you don't want to end up in traffic jams of walkers

Hull Pot, on the western side of Pen-y-Ghent, is a collapsed cavern, and an impressive hole measuring 91m (300ft) long by 18m (60ft) deep. In the late 18th century, in a guidebook published, it was called 'a Hulpit', and the author stated that it "would have appeared like the inside of an enormous old Gothic castle, the high ruinous walls of which were left standing after the roof was fallen in".

Sunrise is the best

Lower than Whernside but higher than Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough at 723m is the third of the Yorkshire three peaks. It's a great summit, more defined than the long ridge of Whernside and with brilliant views in all directions. At a run, it's quite a climb from any direction, but never too steep (maybe?). The descent is amazing if you haven't wrecked your quads already.

There are amazing views from the summit of Ingleborough. If you're doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks this is usually the last of the 3 and the ascent is a real slog up! It's definitely worth it though.

Walk, Train & Bike

The incline on the North side of Whernside is gradual so is easiest way to hike up.

The grass sides can be particularly slippery in or after the rain. So be careful when approaching the edge. Although the pot is beautiful in the sun, it comes alive after heavy rain when natural waterfalls form.

Highest of the three peaks Whernside means "hillside where millstone are found" and was originally called Querneside around the 12th centaury. 15th most prominent hill in England. Geography Millstone

Lowest of the Three Peaks Pen Y Ghent means "hill on the border" in Cumbric Language, which is a variety of common Brittonic language spoken during the middle ages in the "old north" (Hen Ogledd) It is closely related to "old welsh". Geography Millstone grit top upon a bed of carboniferous limestone. Summit acts as a watershed with water flowing east into the river Skirfare and onto to the Humber Estuary. Water flowing west into the river Ribble and onto the Irish Sea.
